Export writes a file you can keep; Import a backup reads that file back. For Goodreads: My Books › Import and Export › Export Library. Shelves, ratings, dates and reviews all come across; the archive then reads each new book for its genre and cover.
This empties the whole library — every book, every wish, every shelf you have invented and the star on what you are reading now. It clears them here and in the cloud for this account, so every device you sign in on empties too. Your sign-in itself stays; you keep the library, it is simply empty.
Nothing has to be lost. Save a copy first — it downloads as a file you can keep, and Import a backup, just above, brings the whole library back from it whenever you like. A Goodreads CSV works just as well.
